Recommendations
  • Browsers such as Microsoft Explorer and Chrome use special codes (markers) to display pages on the screen. Unfortunately, some markers are not recognised by all browsers.
  • The NPPG pages are designed on the assumption that you are using a Web browser which can correctly recognise the latest version of html.
  • It is important to use a "modern" browser since the World Wide Web is developing rapidly and new features and capabilities are constantly emerging. For example, some Web browsers will not format paragraphs correctly and do not implement forms. The latest versions of Chrome and Microsoft Explorer are recommended browsers as they are consistent on a range of platforms (Macintosh, Windows and UNIX) and support features such as javascript and java.
JAVA Script
  • JAVA Script should be turned on.
Browser Window
  • The browser window should be maximised.
Screen Resolution
  • Screen resolution should be set at 1280 x 768 or higher.
Images Look Strange or Patchy?
  • If NPPG images look strange or patchy then you probably have your graphics mode set to 4 bit (16 colours) and need to reconfigure from the Windows control panel or from your graphics card utilities to at least 8 bit (256 colour image).
  • Images look best when your computer is set up for thousands of colours.
Downloading NPPG Web Pages is slow?
  • Probably the main consideration for most users of the Internet is the speed of data transfer.  Depending on the time of day and your location, data transfer rates can be slow.
  • Browsers differ considerably in their speed of operation.
  • The speed of operation of most browsers can be improved by allocating cache space on your computers hard drive (see your browser's options or preferences menu).
  • Browsers generally place heavy demands on a computer, and performance is enhanced on more powerful computers with sufficient memory (RAM).
  • Browsers should be allocated as much memory as possible.
  • If information on the NPPG web site appears not to be up to date then try refreshing or reloading the page concerned

The "Refresh" option is on the "View" menu in Internet Explorer
  • If after refreshing or reloading, the information is still out of date then please let me know.
